A NOTE FROM DIANE

I'd like to tell you a story about why I became a realtor.

I was a young mom and a family member passed away. Dealing with the loss of a loved one was already a stressful and sad situation for me, but I also needed to sell their home. I remember sitting on the living room floor with my two young children, and my realtor. My realtor was talking loudly over the sound of my child crying on my lap, telling me "I know this is the first offer and it's low, but you should just take it. It would take a lot of time to find a better offer."

I was shocked by the words coming out of her mouth. She had already done very little to help prepare the home for the market, and now, at the most important part of her job, she wasn't even giving me her time. She seemed preoccupied and kept taking calls from her cell phone. I asked myself, "where did I go wrong?" I thought I had chosen a realtor very carefully; one with the most sales in my area. But at this moment, that meant nothing. I felt like a transaction, tossed aside as soon as the agreement was inked.

A year later, I had to sell another property. Again, I looked for the best realtor who had the most sales, sent me the most mailers, and who was supposed to be "the best." Unfortunately, this time was even worse. My agent had their own agenda, and did not care about my experience. I realized that my first experience was not a fluke. There was significant opportunity for improvement in this industry. I was reminded that good agents are not only driven, but they also have empathy and heart. Most importantly, I knew I could do better than this. People should be able to work with a realtor who genuinely cares, and I decided to be that person.

With firm resolve to make a difference, I studied for the exam and received my license. From my very first day on the job, I made a commitment to be the agent that I would want to have. That starts with listening. When I engage with clients, the first thing I do is sit down with them, ask questions, and listen. Truly listen, and with heart. I ask how I can help. I ask what their goals are. And then I come up with a plan to meet them. I remember myself, sitting on that living room floor, and I try to be the person I wish was looking back at me.

I now have been helping families for almost 20 years. I love when they refer me and I take great pride in all of their testimonials, which are all 5 star reviews.
